War Burns World's Box-Office



All in a day's work. A day, as in 24 hours. It's not even the 4th of July.

Los Angeles, July 1 -- Steven Spielberg's epic War of the Worlds raked in 34.6 million dollars worldwide on its first day on screens, the biggest opening ever for a movie starring Tom Cruise, producers have said. The 135-million-dollar adaptation of H G Wells' 1898 science fiction novel notched up a whopping 21.3 million dollars domestically where it debuted wednesday Paramount Pictures said yesterday. -- Associated Press
